Well that's a cheerful thing to read with my coffee. "probably not" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting in that sentence.
US soldiers can't be protected from all bioweapons, Army admits amid troubling surge in threats
The U.S. Army unveiled its plan to prepare soldiers to fight through biological attacks rather than assume every threat can be stopped.
Still, the Army hopes their implemented plan will help prepare the force to deploy and fight in biologically contested environments by 2035. Rather than treating outbreaks primarily as medical emergencies, the military wants commanders, intelligence officers and logistics personnel to prepare for biological threats while continuing to carry out their combat missions. EMERGING TECH HAS NEW ARMY LEADERS WARNING TROOPS CAN'T ‘AI’ THEIR WAY TO VICTORY ON THE BATTLEFIELD
One of the biggest changes will be bringing biological incidents into major Army combat exercises, forcing commanders to respond to potential outbreaks while continuing their other missions. Rather than relying on specialized biological exercises, the Army wants troops across different military functions to confront biological threats as part of their regular training. Tamasi described one scenario involving a simulated norovirus outbreak at a military port. While medical personnel worked to contain the outbreak, logistics officers would have to determine how to keep critical supplies moving. The example illustrates a broader shift in the Army's approach: Biological threats are no longer being treated solely as medical problems but as potential disruptions to military operations that commanders must be prepared to manage. "We need to make sure that doctrine is aligned," Tamasi said, explaining that the Army is working to establish how biodefense readiness should be assessed across the force. The new plan, signed last week, puts into motion the Army's updated biodefense strategy released in September, which sets a goal of preparing soldiers to deploy and fight in biologically contested environments by 2035. The first two-year implementation cycle will focus on establishing policies, improving coordination across Army organizations and developing personnel with specialized biological expertise. More advanced technologies and acquisition efforts are expected in later phases. The effort comes amid growing concerns about the potential for artificial intelligence and biotechnology to accelerate the development of biological threats. PLAGUE MYSTERY REVIVES CONCERNS OVER NOT-TO-SECRET RUSSIAN BIOWEAPONS PROGRAM
Tamasi described those advances as a dual-use challenge, with technologies that can accelerate medical discoveries also potentially enabling new biological threats to emerge more quickly. Russia remains a particular concern for U.S. national security officials. Washington has long assessed that Moscow maintains an offensive biological weapons program inherited from the Soviet Union, despite Russia's obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention. The United States renounced offensive biological weapons in 1969 and is also a party to the convention, which prohibits the development, production and stockpiling of biological weapons. The newly signed plan bringing biological warfare scenarios into routine combat training as artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology raise new concerns about the weapons America's adversaries could develop in the near future. "Can we protect every soldier from every possible bio threat? Probably not," Dr. Alison Tamasi, a senior official at the Army's Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Agency, told reporters on Monday. "We can't put them in a bubble," she added. The shift comes as U.S. officials continue to assess whether Moscow maintains an offensive biological weapons program after a mysterious death in Russia was linked to an anti-plague facility — reviving questions of biological safety and transparency. Ouch, getting cut loose a month out has to sting. When your own team stops buying you drinks, you know how the night ends.
Trump-linked super PAC pulls funding from 2 House Republicans as GOP fights to keep majority
A top elections group affiliated with President Donald Trump is halting spending planned in two key congressional districts held by sitting House Republicans as Election Day looms less than a month away. MAGA Inc.
Republicans' uphill battle to keep control of the House of Representatives is getting tougher by the day, according to various projections. The latest Fox News Power Rankings show Democrats having an edge in 219 House seats — enough to clinch a majority — while Republicans are projected to keep 198. Nineteen seats are still up in the air. Kean's 7th Congressional District is one of the wealthiest in both New Jersey and the U.S. as a whole, encompassing suburbs and exurbs of New York City to the north. A source close to Kean's campaign told Fox News Digital that "the race is fully funded down the home stretch."
Kean's campaign and House Republicans' campaign arm "have major reservations on broadcast," the source said, adding that his Democratic opponent Rebecca Bennett "has no soft dollar reservations on her behalf."
He and Miller-Meeks represent two of the most purple districts in the country. Kean won his House seat in 2022 after defeating incumbent former Rep. Tom Malinowski, D-N.J., by less than 10,000 votes. His 2024 re-election margin was wider, winning by just over 5%, or 23,000 more votes than his Democrat challenger. Miller-Meeks, meanwhile, is seeking a fourth term against Democrat Christina Bohannan, whom she defeated twice by roughly 20,000 and 800 votes in 2022 and 2024. She first won in 2020 by just six votes — earning her the nickname "six-pack" among fellow House Republicans and GOP leadership. DEMOCRATS SEE NEW CHANCES TO FLIP RED STATES — BUT A $400M GOP SPENDING ADVANTAGE COULD DERAIL THEIR PLANS
Miller-Meeks represents Iowa's 1st Congressional District in the state's southeast, encompassing the cities of Davenport and Iowa City. The New York Times first reported plans by "top Republican super PACs aligned with President Trump and congressional Republican leadership" to pull funding from Kean and Miller-Meeks' districts over concerns about their polling. TRUMP-LINKED MAGA INC POURS $10M INTO KEN PAXTON'S TEXAS SENATE RACE AGAINST JAMES TALARICO
CLF is reportedly pulling the funding as part of a wider reshuffling of its war chest into other districts that Republicans are more confident in. That includes battleground Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Monica De La Cruz, R-Texas, The Times reported. The source familiar with CLF's planning told Fox News Digital the group was also pulling funding from Michigan's 8th Congressional District and Ohio's 1st Congressional District, where Republicans were hoping to unseat Reps. Kristen McDonald Rivet, D-Mich., and Greg Landsman, D-Ohio. Fox News Digital reached out to Miller-Meeks' campaign but did not immediately hear back.

21 straight wins and still nobody says his name? Someone's being criminally slept on, and I have a soft spot for that. 😌
Matt Leinart: Here's Why Indiana QB Josh Hoover Is A Heisman Dark Horse
Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover has extended the program's winning streak to 21 games and been a smooth operator of the offense. So why isn't he getting more Heisman buzz?
Through Indiana's first five games, Hoover, a fifth-year senior, has totaled 1,101 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 203.7 passer rating, while completing 71.0% of his passes. Hoover's passing touchdowns and passer rating each lead the Big Ten. As for Indiana's offense, the Hoosiers rank second in the Big Ten in rushing yards (252.6 per game), third in both total yards (489.6 per game) and points (44.2 per game) and 11th in passing yards (237.0 per game). Hoover transferred to Indiana after four seasons at TCU, where he spent three years as the starting quarterback. From 2023-25, he posted averages of 3,209.0 passing yards, 23.7 passing touchdowns and 11.0 interceptions per season, along with a 147.8 passer rating and a 65.1% completion rate. Now, Hoover is following in the footsteps of Mendoza, who led Indiana to its first national championship in program history during a perfect 16-0 season in 2025. Mendoza threw for 3,535 yards and 41 touchdowns with six interceptions, posting a 182.9 passer rating and completing 72.0% of his passes. Mendoza also rushed for 276 yards and seven touchdowns en route to winning the 2025 Heisman Trophy. He ultimately became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, selected by the Las Vegas Raiders. With two unbeaten opponents in Nebraska and Ohio State looming, Hoover has a chance to put himself in the Heisman conversation. "I think he's exceeded expectations so far," Leinart added. "Obviously, the schedule picks up starting today and next week, and then in the second half of the season. But I just want to say this: I think it's time to start putting some respect on Josh Hoover's name. He's one of the best players in the country."

Matt Leinart thinks it's time to change that. "No one's talked about Josh Hoover," Leinart said on Saturday's edition of "Big Noon Kickoff." "Fernando Mendoza came out of nowhere last year toward the second half of the season [for Indiana]. Hoover's got better stats than Mendoza, hasn't turned the football over and is a really talented player. "He's got a chance with this schedule, starting today [against Nebraska] and then Ohio State next week in the Big Ten to make a run at this thing [the Heisman Trophy]."Through Indiana's first five games, Hoover, a fifth-year senior, has totaled 1,101 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 203.7 passer rating, while completing 71.0% of his passes. Wait, that's just... Allowed now? I genuinely did not have this on my friday bingo card.
ATF suspends federal registration and approval rules for certain firearms
Gun owners will no longer be required to federally register or seek advance approval to manufacture or transfer silencers, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and "Any Other Weapons" (AOWs), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced Friday. The policy directive halts National Firearms Act (NFA) enforcement for items subject to zero-dollar tax rates under the updated guidelines.
"The direction from the President, Congress, and the courts is clear," Cekada said. "ATF is now following suit with our enforcement posture while continuing to ensure we remain focused where we are needed the most: combatting violent crime in American communities."
The regulatory shift stems from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, in which Congress reduced NFA manufacturing and transfer taxes to $0 for silencers, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and AOWs. GUN RIGHTS GROUPS CAPITALIZE AFTER JUDGE REVERSES DECADES-OLD RESTRICTIONS: 'MONUMENTAL'
Following that legislation, a federal judge in Texas issued an injunction in August, concluding that because Congress eliminated the underlying tax, the NFA’s mandatory registration and transfer provisions could no longer be justified under Congress’s constitutional taxing power. The ruling initially applied only to the plaintiffs, but the Justice Department subsequently extended its nonenforcement policy nationwide. John Commerford, executive director of the National Rifle Association (NRA), praised the announcement, calling it a historic milestone. MAJOR APPEALS COURT DECLARES NEW JERSEY AR-15 BAN UNCONSTITUTIONAL IN LANDMARK SECOND AMENDMENT RULING
"This is what happens when all three branches of government are willing to follow the Constitution," Commerford said in a statement. "Now the Trump administration has confirmed it will stop treating law-abiding Americans as if they still need special permission from the government to own hearing protection, rifles, or shotguns."
Although the specific NFA requirements and fees have been suspended, all transactions remain subject to the Gun Control Act. Licensed dealers are still required to perform standard background checks and maintain transaction records. Machine guns and destructive devices remain subject to NFA requirements, while federal approval is still required to transport short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns across state lines. The ATF noted it will continue to accept voluntary registrations for owners wishing to document their items, though future legal shifts could potentially reinstate prior regulations without automatic grandfathering protection.

Okay this one genuinely gave me chills reading it with my coffee. How is this happening in the middle of europe?
Hamas allegedly built weapons depots across Europe, planned terror attacks as Oct 7 anniversary neared
The German federal prosecutor’s office recently announced that it indicted seven people for allegedly securing weapons for the Hamas terrorist organization, with the goal of launching terrorist attacks on the second remembrance date of the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel.
The statement added, "The attack was to take place in close temporal proximity to the second anniversary of Hamas’s assault on Israel on 7 October 2023 — i.e., in early October 2025."
The indictment listed the nationalities and first names and first letter of the last name of the suspects: German national Abed Al G., Danish national Yousif C., Lebanon-born Borhan El-K., Lebanon-born Wael F.M., German national Ahmad I., Lebanon-born Kamel M., Bulgarian national Mohammad S."
German law shields the last names of criminal suspects for privacy reasons. The German prosecutors said the suspected Hamas terrorists "had already obtained a functional fully automatic rifle, 13 functional pistols and more than 700 rounds of ammunition. Mohammed A., who is being prosecuted separately, transported some of the weapons to Vienna and stored them there."
According to the German paper Die Welt, "One of the accused was working as a confidential informant for Germany’s domestic intelligence agency. The files show that the informant continued reporting to his intelligence handler while allegedly failing to disclose the full extent of his own involvement in obtaining ammunition for the group."

Missouri opened its season with a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to move to 1-0, and Kansas is also 1-0 by way of a 51-6 win over Long Island. Missouri's offense carried the opener. Quarterback Austin Simmons threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns without an interception, and the Tigers scored 54 points while allowing 14. Kansas leaned on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Isaiah Marshall passed for 246 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, running back Yasin Willis added 72 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and the Jayhawks' defense allowed just 6 points in the win. The Tigers are 5.5-point favorites over the Jayhawks at DraftKings, with a total of 50.5 and a moneyline of -221 for the Tigers and +178 for the Jayhawks. Below, we'll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game. Missouri needed a jolt at quarterback, and the Ole Miss transfer delivered one immediately, completing 17 of 19 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns before halftime of a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The left-hander beat out returning options Matt Zollers and Nick Evers for the job this spring, and he now gets his first true road test against a Kansas defense that just gave up 613 total yards in its own opener. Simmons will lean on a Missouri receiving corps built around Donovan Olugbode in a game the Big 12 moved to a Friday night, prime-time window. Another efficient outing keeps the No. 25 Tigers unbeaten and validates the offseason quarterback overhaul in Columbia. Kansas is playing its first game at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium against Missouri since 2005, and it's Marshall's job to make sure the revived Border Showdown feels like a coronation. The redshirt sophomore won the starting job out of fall camp and answered with 246 yards and two touchdowns through the air plus 49 rushing yards on just seven carries in a 51-6 rout of LIU. That dual-threat element gives offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki another wrinkle against a Missouri front that will be seeing Marshall as a starter for the first time. A repeat performance would give Kansas a signature statement in a game the Big 12 shifted to national primetime. Fresh off a season-opening connection with Austin Simmons that produced 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Olugbode enters as Missouri's most established target after leading all Tigers freshmen in snaps a year ago with 30 catches for 401 yards. He and new quarterback Simmons have already shown chemistry, and that rapport matters against a Kansas secondary that will be facing a Big 12 opponent's top receiver for the first time this season. With Cincinnati transfer Caleb Goodie and Ole Miss transfer Cayden Lee also in the mix, Olugbode figures to see plenty of coverage attention. Sustained production from him would keep Missouri's passing game ahead of the sticks all night. McMillan barely needed a transition period after arriving from Buffalo, catching six passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in his Jayhawks debut against LIU. The First Team All-MAC selection topped 100 yards receiving in six straight games last season for the Bulls, and he immediately looks like Kansas's new No. 1 option opposite a Missouri secondary adjusting to a new-look Big 12 slate. His size at 6-foot-1 gives Isaiah Marshall a reliable outlet on early downs and in contested situations. If McMillan keeps producing like he did in week one, Kansas has the vertical threat it needs to make good on its home-field return against the Tigers. Honestly? Respect. Turning down that kind of paycheck to stand by your people is hot in a way I can't explain.

Honestly I'd love that level of paperwork on who's funding my life decisions too. Curious if this actually survives the senate.
